Church-wide Thanksgiving Meal

The Church-wide Thanksgiving Dinner is set for Sunday, November 5, at 5:00 PM, in the Christian Life Center. This is a time to invite visitors, offer rides to our members uncomfortable with driving, and making everyone welcome. Take a few moments to contact neighbors, friends, and members you haven’t seen in a while and invite them to the dinner.

Plan to bring a “Thanksgiving-y” side dish or a dessert, enough to feed 10-12 people. This is a great time of fellowship and fantastic food. Plan to join us.

The annual Candyland Ministry supported by First Baptist Church is on Halloween, October 31, in the Christian Life Center, 5:30-7:30 pm.  Children all over Whitley County are invited to stop in, receive candy and snacks, and hear God’s Word.

We need volunteers to help with this fun ministry and we need candy — lots and lots of candy! Contact the church office for more information.

World Hunger Bean and Rice Luncheon

The Missions Committee is sponsoring a World Hunger Beans and Rice Meal on Sunday, October 22, immediately after morning worship in the Christian Life Center. All donations will go to the World Hunger Fund.

If you could bring a crock pot of beans or a pot of rice, please contact Norma in the office or Anita Bowman.

International Students Prepare Meal

International Students from University of the Cumberlands will be preparing a meal based on dishes from their homelands on Thursday, October 5, in the Christian Life Center of First Baptist Church Williamsburg. Preparation will begin at 6:00 pm and the meal will be served at 8:00 pm.

You can help! We need dish and pot washers! Beginning at 6:00 pm, we need people at the sinks keeping up with the dishes, utensils, pots, and pans that are in use by the students. If you can help, please contact the church office or show up at 6:00 pm to help!

This is a great way to get to know students from all over the world and share our faith and welcoming spirit.

Tutoring Ministry Begins in October

FBC’s After-School Program will be resuming soon. On Tuesday, October 17, our doors will open to a whole new crew of smiling faces ready to learn and have fun. We have had a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers for the past two years but we are at a place where we can really use more help. Please read on, to learn how you can make a difference in the life of a child. Listed below are some of the ways you can help. Look over them and pray about whether or not this is the year you might volunteer. Contact Michelle Myers for more information.

Bus Driver/Monitor—Would you be willing to drive the church bus to pick kids up after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays? (You would simply file in behind the school buses and the children would be brought to you.) A monitor is also needed.

Provide Snacks—Children are always hungry after school and they don’t need anything elaborate. Would you help provide snacks by purchasing enough for 25 children on certain assigned days?

Serve as a Tutor—Will you sign up to tutor a child in reading or math for 45 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays? The relationship you build with that child will be almost as valuable as the work you do with him.

Help with Homework—Would you be willing to come occasionally just to help children struggling with homework assignments? This is a great option for the person who wants to help but cannot commit to every Tuesday and Thursday.

Help Children Learn a Skill—Do you have a knack for wood-working? Good at basketball? Play an instrument? If you have a skill that you would be willing to teach to a small group of students on a short-term basis, we can use you!

Greeter—We need a volunteer who can greet parents and caregivers with a friendly smile and kind words. This is a “new position” and would be a true blessing as he/she would be responsible for helping check children out, getting to know the adults in their lives, and freeing up other volunteers to continue working with the children as opposed to having to stop every few minutes to handle the check-out procedure.
