Tutoring Ministry Begins in October

FBC’s After-School Program will be resuming soon. On Tuesday, October 17, our doors will open to a whole new crew of smiling faces ready to learn and have fun. We have had a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers for the past two years but we are at a place where we can really use more help. Please read on, to learn how you can make a difference in the life of a child. Listed below are some of the ways you can help. Look over them and pray about whether or not this is the year you might volunteer. Contact Michelle Myers for more information.

Bus Driver/Monitor—Would you be willing to drive the church bus to pick kids up after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays? (You would simply file in behind the school buses and the children would be brought to you.) A monitor is also needed.

Provide Snacks—Children are always hungry after school and they don’t need anything elaborate. Would you help provide snacks by purchasing enough for 25 children on certain assigned days?

Serve as a Tutor—Will you sign up to tutor a child in reading or math for 45 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays? The relationship you build with that child will be almost as valuable as the work you do with him.

Help with Homework—Would you be willing to come occasionally just to help children struggling with homework assignments? This is a great option for the person who wants to help but cannot commit to every Tuesday and Thursday.

Help Children Learn a Skill—Do you have a knack for wood-working? Good at basketball? Play an instrument? If you have a skill that you would be willing to teach to a small group of students on a short-term basis, we can use you!

Greeter—We need a volunteer who can greet parents and caregivers with a friendly smile and kind words. This is a “new position” and would be a true blessing as he/she would be responsible for helping check children out, getting to know the adults in their lives, and freeing up other volunteers to continue working with the children as opposed to having to stop every few minutes to handle the check-out procedure.
